Elliot Ervin is very thankful for the television commercial he watched back in 2017. At the time, he had a job he didn’t love, and he had a longing to work in a dietary unit somewhere. He saw a commercial about Danbury and immediately decided to apply, hoping they would have a dietary position available.
Elliot got the position he wanted; he’s been a cook and server at Danbury Massillon for two years now. He finds the job to be the perfect fit for him - no more machines or products, just helping people everyday.
Being kind and pleasant seems to come easily to Elliot. “I’m there to put a smile on the residents’ faces, to make them feel good every single day. Attending to the residents is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done.”
Elliot says he pays close attention to make sure each resident has exactly what they want to eat and drink. “My favorite part of my day is when they tell me I make them smile, when they tell me they appreciate me. And it happens all the time—they tell me, and their families tell me.”
Another big reason for Elliot's good mood at work is his coworkers. “All of them are down to earth...we work together as a team...the managers are great...It feels like one big family.”
Elliot values honesty, loyalty, and open communication most in a workplace, and he's grateful to see these things at Danbury everyday. Danbury encourages employees to have fun, says Elliot—working hard doesn’t mean you can’t have fun.
The hardest part of Elliot's day is getting up in the morning. But as soon as he gets in his car, he loses the tired attitude. “It’s important to wear a smile, not just to put it on, but to wear it.”
Elliot feels lucky to have found Danbury... but we feel we're lucky to have found Elliot!
