PARKSIDE VILLAGE TO OPEN NEW ADDITION IN SUMMER 2018

Expansion Includes a State-of-the-Art Movement Specialty Program

Westerville, OH— April 26, 2018 After a year-and-a half long expansion project, Parkside Village Senior Living Community will open 69 additional apartments in the summer of 2018, enabling them to better serve the growing need for senior living in the Westerville and surrounding areas.  From the beginning, an expansion had been planned. Once phase 1 was stabilized, construction on phase 2 would begin, so they broke ground on the new addition in December 2016.  The expansion will include a dining room enlargement as well as additional common areas and more independent living, assisted living, and memory care apartments. “We’re extremely excited to be able to soon share with the community our new addition,” said Executive Director Chris Quinlan. “Much thought and planning has gone into developing spaces and programs to meet the needs of our current and future residents.”

New State-of-the-Art Movement Specialty Wing

With the new addition, Parkside Village will also be opening a state-of-the-art Movement Specialty Program, which is the first of its kind in Ohio.  The senior living community partnered with the Parkinson’s Foundation Ohio Chapter and Dr. Deb Kegelmeyer of Neukinetics certification to determine the special needs of those with movement disorders such as Parkinson’s Disease and other neurodegenerative disorders.  Dr. Kegelmeyer is a professor of physical therapy with a research focus on balance and mobility in aging and neurodegenerative diseases. The Neukinetics certification program provides specialized training in the care of clients with Parkinson Disease. Dr. Kegelmeyer has also developed the Create a Better You program, an exercise program to improve balance and help prevent falls which the staff will utilize with the residents in the program.

Parkside Village’s new Movement Specialty Program will include 14 apartments in a specialty wing specifically designed for residents with movement disorders. The adaptive apartment design will help preserve the resident’s independence as much as possible.  The staff, as well as therapists, will receive extensive training in the specific needs of those residents, including the special medication management requirements, special exercise needs, etc… A neurologist will be available to help manage and oversee the care of these residents. There will be other specialized programming offered to the residents and Parkside Village will continue to partner with the Parkinson’s Foundation of Central Ohio to offer educational events and webinars throughout the year. “We feel grateful to be able to serve this population of seniors in such a specialized way,” said Quinlan. “We saw a need for this specialized Movement Specialty Program not only within our own population of residents but in the Central Ohio community and we’re thankful that we’ve been able to bring our vision to fruition.”

Parkside Village is affiliated with Danbury Senior Living, an Ohio-based senior living developer.  Built in 2012, the senior living community features amenities such as a movie theater, pub, fitness center, billiards room, library, craft room, beauty salon, and more!  They offer a variety of floor plans ranging from spacious studios to 1 and 2-bedroom apartments as well as exceptional all-day restaurant style dining, weekly housekeeping with linen service, 24-hour on-site nursing services, transportation, and a variety of fun and meaningful life enrichment programs, activities, and events.  “We have a very active community,” said Director of Admissions and Marketing Kristel Smith. “Our residents enjoy a variety of activities including entertainers, happy hour, card clubs, book clubs, writer’s groups, choir practice, arts and craft classes, exercise classes, and so much more. We also offer transportation to doctor’s appointments, grocery stores, and clothing or craft stores as well as special outings each week. We keep our residents as busy as they want to be. Some folks have referred to us as a cruise ship that never sets sail.”

Residents can age in place

Parkside Village is unique in the fact that stepping up to a higher level of care from independent living does not necessitate a move. They recognize that individuals have varying health needs and those needs may change over time, so they created a community that tailors services to each person without the need to move to another apartment. Their mindful rate structure also offers significant value for couples to maintain their lifestyle with or without support services. With their wide selection of spacious floor plans, it makes it easy for couples to find the perfect balance of space and togetherness. They have some of the largest apartments with the option for support services in town, making them a very popular choice for couples! “We love our residents and our residents love us,” said Smith. “I remember the first day we opened,” said Smith.  “We moved in a handful of people and over the years, I have watched it steadily grow into one of the premier senior living communities in the Columbus area.”  Smith adds, “Our leadership team’s blood, sweat, and tears have been poured into this building and I’m so proud of the reputation that Parkside has made for itself. Many of the folks coming in to tour have said that they came in because they have heard such great things about our community.”

Named a Top Workplace two years in a row

Parkside Village was named by Columbus CEO Magazine as a 2017 and 2018 Top Workplace in the Central Ohio area. “One of the things we’re proudest of at Parkside is the longevity of our staff,” said Quinlan. “Most of our managers have been here since the beginning and many of our support staff have longevity. That’s such a rarity in our ever-changing healthcare industry. We are lucky to work with so many great people who have a heart and passion to serve our residents. Parkside is truly a special place!”

Parkside Village will be scheduling a Grand Opening for the new addition in the summer, so stay tuned for the details. For more information or to schedule a tour, visit their website at www.DanburySeniorLiving.com or call 614-794-9300.
