Veterans Day is this Thursday. Do our veterans feel more recognition should now be paid? It’s has been thought when soldiers came home from WWII they just wanted to get on with their lives and rebuild America. They did what they had to do, they did their job- all of them. No need to single anyone out and celebrate, just pull up your bootstraps and move on. I don’t think anyone needs reminded of the tragedy of the way our Vietnam Veterans were treated upon coming home. Having seen the utmost of the horrors of war, these Veterans were not treated the way they should have been, a fact we all now recognize.
Did you know we are losing 250 WWII Veterans every day and a recent study suggests we are losing almost 400 Vietnam Veterans each day? We need to show these men and women how grateful we are.
Veterans Day is our chance to thank and honor all veterans. Yes, it is important to thank them for their service, but I encourage you to thank them for their sacrifice. Each and every Veteran and their family made sacrifices many of us could not imagine. As Ronald Reagan said, “Words cannot repay the debt we owe these soldiers, surely with our actions we must strive to keep faith with them and with the vision that led them to service and sacrifice.”
